Keeping Pets with Their Families: How Homeward Bound Helps Beyond TNR
At Homeward Bound, our mission has always been to make life better for animals — but that often means helping the people who love them, too. While Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) remains our main focus, we know that sometimes a little help can make all the difference in keeping pets where they belong: at home with their families.
Here in Sabetha — the City with a Heart — we’re reminded daily how much compassion exists in our community. Recently, we were made aware of a Nemaha County family struggling to get their pets relief from fleas and the complications that came with them. The situation had become overwhelming, and the family wasn’t sure where to turn.
Homeward Bound stepped in to partner with their veterinary clinic to get the animals seen and treated for multiple issues. All pets in the household received flea medication and the care they needed to start feeling better.
While we’re keeping this family’s name private, we want the community to know that Homeward Bound is here to help — whether it’s a stray cat needing a safe place, a farm pet in need of care, or a family trying to provide for the animals they already love.
Shelters everywhere are overloaded, and keeping pets in their homes whenever possible is one of the best ways we can prevent more animals from entering the system. Every bit of assistance — from medical care to food support — helps reduce strain on shelters and keeps families together.
Homeward Bound exists to serve Nemaha County residents and their animals, one act of compassion at a time. Whether through TNR, medical help, or connecting pet owners with local resources, our goal remains the same: to make sure every cat and companion animal has the care they deserve.
Support Homeward Bound During Give to Grow
As our Give to Grow major fundraising event approaches November 19–21, we’re asking for your support. Homeward Bound relies solely on donations from our community — we have no paid staff, which means every dollar goes directly toward helping animals in need.
Your generosity helps us continue this important work: keeping pets with their families, supporting local caregivers, and providing vital care for Nemaha County’s cats and companion animals.
