Homeward Bound’s 2026 Focus & Priority Shifts
Looking Ahead to 2026
As Homeward Bound enters 2026, we are refining our priorities to ensure our efforts remain sustainable, effective, and centered on long-term solutions for cats in our community. These updates reflect both our mission and the realities of our available resources.
A Renewed Focus on Trap–Neuter–Return (TNR)
Our primary focus for 2026 will be Trap–Neuter–Return (TNR). As soon as weather conditions are consistently warm, Homeward Bound will resume TNR efforts across the communities we serve.
TNR is the most humane and effective way to reduce the number of stray and feral cats over time. By preventing future litters, TNR decreases suffering, improves colony health, and helps stabilize populations without removing cats from the environment they depend on.
Supporting the Caregivers on the Ground
In addition to TNR, Homeward Bound will dedicate funds in 2026 to supporting colony caregivers we already assist. These caregivers provide daily food, monitor colony health, and alert us when cats need medical attention or TNR services.
Providing routine food support helps stabilize colonies and allows caregivers to continue their vital work. Their commitment is a cornerstone of successful TNR programs, and we are proud to support them.
Changes to Public Intake Availability
Due to limited foster capacity, Homeward Bound will no longer be accepting public intakes at this time. This decision was made thoughtfully and responsibly.
Without enough foster homes, taking in additional cats would stretch our resources beyond what we can ethically manage. By adjusting intake availability, we can focus on programs that create the greatest long-term impact while ensuring proper care for cats already within our scope.
Medical Care Within TNR Cases
While our focus is on TNR, we remain committed to the wellbeing of every cat we help. If a cat undergoing TNR requires medical treatment, Homeward Bound will ensure they receive necessary care and rehabilitation before being safely returned to their colony.
Moving Forward Together
These priority shifts allow Homeward Bound to continue our work responsibly, sustainably, and with long-term impact in mind. We are deeply grateful for the continued support of our community, volunteers, foster families, and caregivers.
Together, we can make meaningful progress—one colony at a time.
